Travel information

Nanaimo’s location near the middle of Vancouver Island, just 35 kilometres across the Strait of Georgia from Vancouver, means you can get here easily by land, sea, or air. Many people arrive at Nanaimo via BC Ferries, which operates two major terminals in Nanaimo, with sailings all day between Duke Point and Tsawwassen, and Departure Bay and Horseshoe Bay.

The Nanaimo Airport (YCD) is just south of the city, offering continuous air service to Vancouver and dozens of other major cities across Western Canada. For the quickest passage between the downtown Vancouver harbour and downtown Nanaimo, catch a float plane ride across the Georgia Strait.

Nanaimo also has an extensive transit system, and several taxi companies to get you quickly from point A to point B.
